The funny thing is it all started as a fluke. It was a scene I had written for myself and my housemates based on our "types". We pre-read auditioned it, then auditioned it for the camera, then filmed it and somewhere in there came the decision to keep going. I'm learning so much with each webisode it's ridiculous. It's a blast too. If you haven't seen it you can check out the first two webisodes at http://www.youtube.com/montecitoheightstv
The thing is ever since, I've had more auditions in this past month than I've had in the last year. I feel awesome and I'm teaching myself how to do special effects, sound, directing, editing etc.
My advice to my fellow performers is "Do your own thing!".
We do Montecito Heights (webseries) on the cheap. Believe me. It's all shot on a flipHD camera, using a laptop, garageband and audacity, a headset microphone (Yes that's correct)for sound and a tripod and gorillapod. I edit it on my laptop using Final Cut Express but you can totally do it on IMovie. There's really no excuse. Just write it, cast it and do it!!!!
If anything you'll learn so much about the camera and how to use it to your advantage.
